Please be on the lookout for this man, who has multiple warrants out for his arrest. He is believed to be the burglar on May Avenue today and the burglar on Stokeswood last month. It's likely that he has been committing many of the car break-ins in the area, including a couple that were reported last night on Pasley and Stokeswood. He is believed to be in the area, possibly around the Village, and is likely homeless. If you see him, call 911 and the EASP at 404-954-1568. Unfortunately he was arrested for the Stokeswood burglary and let go. The community will need to be a little more diligent when he gets picked up this time to make sure he's not released again.
East Atlanta burglaries are front and center in today's crime stoppers post. Please note that police are still actively looking for the black Volvo XC60 SUV with tag PKK2130. Call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477 if you know where the vehicle or suspects can be found. A quick update since this was first posted. APD has confirmed that the Volvo was recovered before the Crime Stoppers post was made, so a little miscommunication there. In addition, the Toyota Camry that has been used in other burglaries has also been recovered. In other words, return to normal. If you see anything suspicious, call 911 followed by the EASP at 404-954-1568. The Crime Stoppers post is still valid with respect to those suspects, so if you know them, be sure to earn yourself some holiday spending money.
As the EASP continues to try to help end this week's string of burglaries, we have opened up our membership through Sunday December 3rd. A number of residents have already signed up, and we are giving everyone that joins this week the rest of the year for free. We want to make sure that anyone who wants extra patrols over the holidays can get them, as that is one of the primary benefits of membership. Patrols are also allocated based on where members live, so find a few neighbors on your street to join with you and boost patrols for your area. The first alert is related to a break-in on Brownwood this afternoon shortly after 1:00. The vehicle involved was a black SUV, so please report any similar vehicles that appear to be suspicious. You can see the vehicle and the men involved at https://video.nest.com/clip/986ef4541f5c4dcfa80f5cbe8ac62a67.mp4. If you recognize the men involved, please contact the police immediately.
The other area of concern is Braeburn and Ora, where in addition to a man looking around on one property at 4 am Saturday morning, there was a black Ford F-150 stolen over the weekend. If you see suspicious activity in that area, be sure to call 911 followed by the EASP at 404-954-1568. The EASP has received a couple of reports this weekend that were a bit unusual. If you have information that would be of value in either case, please let us know. Also remember to call 911 for all suspicious activity, particularly in the next few weeks. While we don't experience increased crime in December every year, it does happen some years. Do not call Zone 6, do not look for a non-emergency number and only call the EASP at 404-954-1568 AFTER you have called 911. Many times criminals are seen prior to a robbery or burglary, but the person fails to call 911 or posts something online first The number one priority is to alert the police so they can prevent a crime or catch the perpetrators. Suspicious activity can be people soliciting leaf raking with no tools, vehicles backing into a neighbor's driveway, or anyone ringing your doorbell or on your property who doesn't have a good reason to be there. While these may be false alarms in some cases, it's far better to call and be wrong than after the crime has been committed.
Do not worry that you are wasting the time of 911 or the police. They want you to call in suspicious activity, and always to 911. A burglary was reported yesterday at 434 Metropolitan Place. This is one of the lowest crime areas in the East Atlanta community, so it's always a little disturbing to hear about burglaries in this vicinity. There was also a report from Saturday morning at 4:00 am from Braeburn Drive near Ora of a person on the property. A camera caught a glimpse of the person walking past their porch. If you are a neighbor in that area, please check your cameras for activity. There is a legitimate concern that this person could have been scouting their home or adjacent properties for a burglary in the near future. Finally, the EASP allowed a number of people to sign up and begin memberships in the past week rather than making them wait until January 1st. We will extend this offer to the rest of the community through Thursday, November 30th. New members will receive the remainder of 2017 for free, with their official membership beginning on January 1st. This offer includes extra patrols for anyone who will be out of town for the holidays. After reviewing video footage from an ATM robbery this week, it appears to be a strong possibility that the man shown is the same one pictured on our previous post that broke into the house on Cecile last week. It was reported that at least three robberies were linked to the same men, and video footage of one of their ATM robberies appears to include the same guy that committed at least one of the recent burglaries in East Atlanta.
Should you see this man, please call 911 immediately and follow up with a call to the EASP at 404-954-1568. Since this robbing crew shot a man during one of the robberies, both the crew and this man in particular should be considered armed and dangerous. After exchanging information with APD's burglary unit, the EASP believes that the same burglars who have been breaking into houses in the Brownwood Park area are also committing most if not all of the other burglaries in the area. This includes the most recent burglary on Cecile Avenue yesterday.
Here is an excellent picture of one of the men involved in the burglary on Cecile. If you know him or recognize him from one of the other recent burglaries, please drop us a note at easp610@gmail.com or give us a call at 404-954-1568. Please be on the lookout for silver or light grey sedan, possibly a Chevy, with blue and white paper tags. Last seen headed down Pendleton toward Moreland. The occupants of this vehicle may be tied to recent burglaries in Brownwood Park area. It is possible that they are parking their vehicle on Pendleton and burglarizing homes that surround the park. Even if you don't see them tonight, keep an eye out for any suspicious vehicle parked on Pendleton or in that immediate area. If you see this vehicle, call 911 immediately followed by the EASP at 404-954-1568.
In order to increase police presence in East Atlanta during the fall and the holiday season, the East Atlanta Security Patrol (EASP) is offering the month of September free to new and returning members! With only four entry dates per year, you must normally wait until October 1st to become a member, but with Labor Day fast approaching and lots of new families moving into the neighborhood this summer, there have been a lot of requests to allow entry before October 1st. This is also a great opportunity to invite your neighbors to become members, as patrol time is largely allocated based on where members live.
Membership in the EASP also means that you may request extra patrols when you're away from home, including Labor Day, Thanksgiving, the December holidays and for New Year’s. By submitting a simple form, members receive get patrols at their homes by both the EASP officers and APD officers. Membership in the EASP is $50 per quarter, with a one-time charge of $15 for administrative fees and an EASP yard sign. Memberships are offered for 3, 6 and 12 months. If you join under this special offer, all memberships will officially start on October 1st, after the free month ends. This offer ends on August 31st. If you have any questions, call us at 404-954-1568 or drop a note to easp610@gmail.com. In addition to extra police patrols in our community, the EASP works closely with the Atlanta Police Department and other security patrols to share information about crime threats or new patterns of crime. When appropriate, the EASP shares this information with the community via the EASP website, Facebook and Twitter. The EASP, now completing its eleventh year of operation, is an effort to enhance public safety in East Atlanta. The EASP employs off-duty Zone Six police officers to perform additional patrols within Beat 612, which is the police designation for the East Atlanta community. All patrol officers are armed, in uniform, with full arrest powers. All vehicles are clearly marked on both sides with the EASP emblem. In the past couple of weeks, there have been a number of burglaries in East Atlanta, although most have been limited to two areas. One is around Gresham and Gracewood, and the other is around Hilburn, Montvallo and Fayetteville.
The second area is our biggest concern and focus, as there appears to be a perpetrator breaking windows in the evening to gain access to homes. To see the latest crimes in our neighborhood, you can go to our crime reports tab. We now update our crime reports daily so you can better assess the situation on your street. If you live in one of these areas, respond to any suspicious activity quickly by calling 911 followed by the EASP at 404-954-1568. Then make your neighbors aware of what you have seen. Be sure to call both numbers before you start posting to NextDoor, your neighborhood listserv or facebook. You do not need to be a member of the EASP to call us, but always call the police before the EASP. In the event our officers are not on duty, we don't want you to be delayed in getting a police response. However, if an EASP officer is on duty, they'll likely beat the response time of the 911 call even though you're calling after speaking with the 911 operator. In addition, take the following precautions, which apply to people outside these areas as well.
There has been a major increase in crime on the streets near Brownwood Park in the past couple of weeks. Included have been several burglaries or attempted burglaries along with a number of incidents of mail theft. Most of this activity is well after dark, generally during hours most people are sleeping. If you hear or see anything suspicious after dark, don't hesitate to call 911, then call the EASP.
As for mail theft, there are many proactive steps you can take to prevent mail theft. If you aren't taking all of these steps, please consider doing as many as you can. The locking mailbox is really the best solution, since it's hard to prevent family members from receiving mail for birthdays and holidays, as well as unexpected items like replacement credit cards.
