Crime in Brownwood Park Area

There has been a major increase in crime on the streets near Brownwood Park in the past couple of weeks.  Included have been several burglaries or attempted burglaries along with a number of incidents of mail theft.  Most of this activity is well after dark, generally during hours most people are sleeping.  If you hear or see anything suspicious after dark, don't hesitate to call 911, then call the EASP.
 
As for mail theft, there are many proactive steps you can take to prevent mail theft. If you aren't taking all of these steps, please consider doing as many as you can.  The locking mailbox is really the best solution, since it's hard to prevent family members from receiving mail for birthdays and holidays, as well as unexpected items like replacement credit cards.

1. Reduce the number of bills you receive.  Almost every company will send you an electronic bills with an email reminder to pay.
2. Pay bills online with a bill pay application.  All banks offer this service free of charge.  This reduces your need to mail items.
3. Do not ever leave outgoing mail in your mailbox.  Go to a mailbox or post office if you need to send outgoing mail.
4. Get a locking mailbox.  This is the easiest option to prevent most mail theft.
5. Collect mail from your mailbox daily.  Surprisingly, many people do not do this.
6. If you will be out of town, have a neighbor collect it daily or hold the mail.  Mail can be held easily online for the days you'll be away.  You can choose to have the accumulated mail delivered when you return or you can pick it up at the post office.
7. Sign up for Informed Delivery.  This is a new service that provides images of the letter sized mail that is scheduled for delivery to your home.
