It appears as though significant progress has been made in identifying and arresting the men connected to a number of burglaries in East Atlanta and other surrounding neighborhoods.  APD had identified Nigel Upshaw in connection with multiple burglaries, and was finally able to arrest him on December 22nd.  There were two burglaries in East Atlanta on December 22nd, but none since Mr. Upshaw was arrested.  An unconfirmed source told us that he was arrested along with a murder suspect, so the community should be happy to hear that he is off the streets and will be looking at some substantial prison time.  From what we've heard, other suspects have been identified so it's likely more arrests are forthcoming.

An adult was arrested by the East Atlanta Security Patrol officer this morning.  He was knocking on doors on Flat Shoals in the usual effort to find unoccupied homes to burglarize.  At this time, it is not known whether he was operating alone or on behalf of a larger group.  He does have a prior burglary history, so it was good that he was caught before a crime could be committed. Thanks to our officer and to the alert citizen who called 911 to report the suspicious activity.  As a reminder, call 911 immediately to report all suspicious activity.  Atlanta does not have a non-emergency number, so 911 is the right number to call.  Only after calling 911, call the EASP at 404-954-1568.

Last night before 8:00 p.m., a resident was robbed at Brownwood and Emerson.   Two men jumped out of a four door white Pontiac, and held up the victim at gunpoint.  The driver was not seen.  The two men appeared to be in their early to mid 20s, average height, dark-skinned African American males.  They were said to be unusually polite.

This is somewhat of an unusual tactic for a robbery and an unusually early time of night for this type of crime.  We urge all residents to be on the lookout for this vehicle, as we have strong concerns that they will return to the area in the near future.  If you see a vehicle matching this description lingering in the area, call 911 immediately followed by a call to the EASP at 404-954-1568.

On Monday, there were a couple more burglaries reported in East Atlanta near Brownwood Park.  This video contains good footage of a man poking around a garage on Gresham shortly before noon and it appears as though he was trying to find a way into the home.  He was successful in his quest to enter a home on Portland a couple of hours later.

Should you see this man or know who he is, please call 911 followed by a call to the EASP at 404-954-1568.  For anyone who lives in the vicinity of 593 Gresham, both crimes were in that area, so neighbors may want to watch to see if this man might be residing over there.

We understand that many people are eager to see the capture of the younger and more mobile burglars that have victimized some of you, and that investigation continues.  In the interim, the EASP will continue to work with the police to help arrest all those who continue to commit crimes in our neighborhood.

We wanted to thank everyone for the overwhelming support of the EASP in the past week.  Even though membership was closed for the year, we've had so many requests from residents to join that we've allowed people to join for the past couple of weeks without waiting until after the holidays.  We set a deadline of December 3rd for new memberships, but more requests have come in and we're now extending the deadline again through Thursday December 7th.  As we have been doing for the past couple of weeks, you will receive the rest of December for free until your official membership starts on January 1st.  If you join after December 7th, you will have to wait until January 1st for your membership to begin.

As always, please remember to call 911 prior to contacting the EASP at 404-954-1568.  Do not call the EASP first and tell us it was not an emergency.  All calls for suspicious activity, whether that be package theft, gunshots, an an alarm going off of suspicious solicitors or vehicles lingering on your street all need to be called in to 911 before you call the EASP and before you start posting on Social Media.  This provides both the police and the EASP the best chance to apprehend criminals in our neighborhood.

While we hate to hear that crimes have occurred in the neighborhood, be sure to call the EASP and let us know if you have been a crime victim.  It's very helpful for us to hear from you directly about crimes, as this helps us work with the police to adjust our patrols as well as watch for perpetrators or vehicles that may be used in future crimes.

Please be on the lookout for this man, who has multiple warrants out for his arrest.  He is believed to be the burglar on May Avenue today and the burglar on Stokeswood last month.  It's likely that he has been committing many of the car break-ins in the area, including a couple that were reported last night on Pasley and Stokeswood.  He is believed to be in the area, possibly around the Village, and is likely homeless.  If you see him, call 911 and the EASP at 404-954-1568.  Unfortunately he was arrested for the Stokeswood burglary and let go.  The community will need to be a little more diligent when he gets picked up this time to make sure he's not released again.

East Atlanta burglaries are front and center in today's crime stoppers post.  Please note that police are still actively looking for the black Volvo XC60 SUV with tag PKK2130.  Call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477 if you know where the vehicle or suspects can be found.  A quick update since this was first posted.  APD has confirmed that the Volvo was recovered before the Crime Stoppers post was made, so a little miscommunication there.  In addition, the Toyota Camry that has been used in other burglaries has also been recovered.  In other words, return to normal.  If you see anything suspicious, call 911 followed by the EASP at 404-954-1568.  The Crime Stoppers post is still valid with respect to those suspects, so if you know them, be sure to earn yourself some holiday spending money.

As the EASP continues to try to help end this week's string of burglaries, we have opened up our membership through Sunday December 3rd.  A number of residents have already signed up, and we are giving everyone that joins this week  the rest of the year for free.  We want to make sure that anyone who wants extra patrols over the holidays can get them, as that is one of the primary benefits of membership.  Patrols are also allocated based on where members live, so find a few neighbors on your street to join with you and boost patrols for your area.

The first alert is related to a break-in on Brownwood this afternoon shortly after 1:00.  The vehicle involved was a black SUV, so please report any similar vehicles that appear to be suspicious.  You can see the vehicle and the men involved at ​https://video.nest.com/clip/986ef4541f5c4dcfa80f5cbe8ac62a67.mp4.  If you recognize the men involved, please contact the police immediately.

The other area of concern is Braeburn and Ora, where in addition to a man looking around on one property at 4 am Saturday morning, there was a black Ford F-150 stolen over the weekend.  If you see suspicious activity in that area, be sure to call 911 followed by the EASP at 404-954-1568.
