As the end of the year approaches, I wanted to take a moment to send out some updates to you.
First, let me state that Captain Ben McGee, my former Assistant Zone Commander has moved on and is no longer assigned to Zone Six. Captain McGee is now assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division. So with that in mind, let me introduce the new Assistant Zone Commander!
Hi,
My name is Capt. William Gourley. I am a 1993 graduate of Georgia Tech. I have been with the Atlanta Police Department for 21 years. I spent 6 years in patrol in Zone 4. My next two years were as a Detective in Narcotics and Burglary. I was promoted to Sergeant in 2003 and sent to Zone 2. I came to Zone 6 in 2004. I left Zone 6 in 2007 to go to Zone 1 upon promotion to Lieutenant.
While in Zone 1, I was in charge of Morning Watch, the overnight shift. I was there for about 2 ½ years. I spent the next 4 years in the Detective unit in Zone 1. While there, I was chosen by the Department to go to East Timor for a joint U S State Department/Australian Federal Police training mission with the East Timor National Police. I was there for 6 months assisting with the training of their detectives.
I was promoted to Captain in 2013 and stayed in Zone 1. I am returning to Zone 6 as the Assistant Zone Commander.
My email address is [email protected]
Thank you
Let’s Welcome Captain W. Scott Gourley to the Zone Six family!
Let’s take a look at crime and see what trends are happening for Zone Six and the City of Atlanta collectively. As you study this chart, you will find that Zone Six had nine incidents that attributed to 10 homicides. 4 out of 9 incidents were situations of domestic violence that ended in death.

Did you know that Zone Six is collecting toys for our Annual Zone Six Toy Drive. If you desire, please purchase and donate a new unwrapped toy. The toys may be dropped off at the Zone Six Main Precinct located at 2025 Hosea L. Williams Drive NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30317. The toys can be dropped off through December 16, 2015. They will be packaged and given away to the children during the celebration on December 17, 2015. Thank you so much for partnering with Zone Six so that children will have gifts under their Christmas trees.
As we celebrate and shop this holiday season, please continue the “Clean Car Campaign” and keep your cars free of all valuables. If shopping, do not place items inside your car and return to the store. It would be better to place items in your trunk and leave the complex. You can go to another location and park only if you must but it would be best to make your way home to unload and return to shopping afterwards.
Prior to walking to your car, stop and take a look around the parking lot and see if you can spot your car or at least know where you parked so that you can take a direct walk towards your vehicle. If needed, know that you can use your panic button if you feel threatened.
“See Something Say Something” – If you notice something that does not seem right or seems suspicious, please say something by calling 911. Do not hesitate to report suspicious activity.
In closing, let's be safe, vigilant and have a Happy and Safe Holiday season!
Sincerely,
Major T. D. Peek
