Over the past couple of nights, there have been a number of vehicles damaged around the East Atlanta area. There was also some similar activity last week. Streets that have been impacted include Grace, Braeburn and Newton.
APD is asking the community to watch for a gray Ford Edge, which they believe is being used in the commission of many of these crimes. If you see a vehicle matching this description, be sure to call 911 followed by the EASP at 404-954-1568. A suspicious vehicle on your street is a legitimate reason to call 911. It does not need to be an emergency to call 911. It's also important to report these crimes by calling 911 and the EASP when you are a victim. APD will provide more resources if we take the time to report these types of crimes. And the EASP will add extra patrols if possible to combat increased crime in our neighborhood. While the EASP relies on memberships to fund these extra patrols, it's still beneficial to call us even if you aren't a member. Anyone providing information that may prevent a future crime is appreciated.
Take the time to remove all items from your car, whether they have value or not. Your car should not have as much as a gum wrapper visible. As for what's not visible, remove all things of value when parking your vehicle. Don't leave computers, phones, guns, wallets, keys or purses in your car. If you absolutely have to leave items in your car, put them in the trunk prior to reaching your destination. And if you are traveling, do not pack items in your trunk the night before.
Another problem during the winter months is people leaving their cars running while they are unoccupied. Do not start your car and let it warm up while you are inside the house. And don't ever leave a running car while you go inside a convenience store, coffee shop or your child's school or daycare. A very large number of drivers leave their car running while they are not inside the vehicle, and this is a major cause of vehicle theft in our area.
