On Sunday, 12/28/14, Officer R. Smith responded to the intersection of Stokeswood Ave SE and Emerson St SE in reference to a person shot. Upon arrival, the victim was found in the roadway with a gunshot wound to his left leg. The victim stated that he was shot by someone during an attempted robbery. He further stated the person who attempted to rob him fled on foot going north on Stokeswood Ave SE. Additional units responded to the area but were unable to locate a suspect. Dekalb EMS M80 responded to the scene and transported the victim to Grady Hospital. The victim stated he and a female friend were walking south on Stokeswood Ave SE from The Midway, a bar not far from the location. He said they passed by a male who was walking north on Stokeswood Ave SE. He said they continued walking and heard someone running up behind them. When they turned around the male who they had passed was running up to them with a gun in his hand. The gun was described as having a red light on it. The victim said the male stated "give me everything you got." The victim said he pulled out his own weapon and the male began to run away. He said the male began firing his weapon as he was running away. The victim said he fired 3 rounds at the male as he was running away. The victim was unsure if the male was struck by gunfire. The victim's friend, gave a similar account of what happened. Three spent shell casings were located in the roadway, all of which appeared to be from the victim’s weapon. No other shell casings were located. The victim's weapon was turned in to property. The suspect was described as a medium build black male wearing blue jeans and a blue and white striped shirt.
