Good morning Zone Six Community!
Recently, several neighborhoods have experienced some disturbing crime trends where people have been robbed of their belongings at gunpoint. We are very much aware of the trends and are working to identify the persons responsible for committing these criminal acts. We have increased our visibility with uniformed patrols as well as utilizing plain clothes details to detect the criminal behavior. In addition to the Zone Six resources, we have deployed other resources that are proactive and seek to deal with violent repeat offenders. From an investigative standpoint, we have a team of centralized detectives assigned to investigate these specific crimes. These detectives work closely with all units within the Criminal Investigations Division so that we all share information in attempts to build the strongest cases on the criminal associated with these crimes.
What we know is that these criminals are not locked in to a specific crime so our response has been successful thus far but there is work to do. The activation of this plan was immediate and since its inception, we have removed several violent groups from our streets. There are at least 7 individuals that we have apprehended for committing offenses while being armed with firearms. Some were out on bond for much more serious offenses. We will continue our efforts and ask our residents would immediately call 911 when they see suspicious behavior. We have the greatest success when we work together. Under no circumstances should you attempt to challenge suspicious behavior. Instead, please call 911 immediately and allow police to respond and investigate the activity.
In closing, be aware of your surroundings and increase lighting in your neighborhoods so that it is easier to see the criminal behavior. The Atlanta Police Department will continue to deliver those who choose to commit criminal behavior to the courts for prosecution so that we can continue to enjoy our communities.
Sincerely,
Major T. D. Peek
