If you will be traveling for the holidays, be sure to inform the East Atlanta Security Patrol by completing an Out of Town Patrol form. Requests are processed daily, but we do ask that you try to get them in early as the volume of submissions is very high at this time of year. In addition to providing your requests for extra patrols to the EASP officers, we also forward the requests to APD if you check the appropriate box. This allows Zone 6 beat officers to provide extra patrols as well.
The Out of Town Patrol requests are a service only for EASP members. If you wish to take advantage of this service, you can join the EASP up until Thanksgiving, and we'll provide free membership for the rest of 2015. Thus, a new member signing up for a three month membership will have service from Thanksgiving all the way through the end of March. We'd love to add some extra patrol hours for the rest of 2015, as the crime levels in the surrounding communities continue to be at high levels. East Atlanta hasn't been experiencing much of late beyond vehicle related crimes, but that can change during the holiday season.
Finally, don't forget to have a good plan in place for managing lighting inside and outside your home while you're away. It's best to have lights that come on at dusk and go off at dawn, or have neighbors who can adjust your lights. Don't forget to have someone check daily for mail, packages, or any flyers or trash that may be left on your property. You can stop the mail, but having a flyer in your yard or attached to your mailbox for four days is a good indicator that you are out of town.
