Today is the final day that the East Atlanta Security Patrol (EASP) will accept new memberships for 2016. Due to many requests, the EASP opened up this extra window in November for new memberships. And any household joining in November will receive the month of December for free. Once November ends, the usual rules will apply and new memberships will begin on the first day of the next quarter, which will be January 1st for anyone joining in December. This is a great opportunity for our neighborhood to gain extra police patrol patrols during the holiday season. Please keep in mind that membership in the EASP is only open to city of Atlanta residents living within the East Atlanta community.
Membership in the EASP also means that you may request extra patrols when you're out of town for business, your child's Winter Break, or for the holidays of Christmas and New Year's. By submitting an electronic form, members have extra attention paid to their homes by both the EASP officers and Atlanta Police Department (APD) officers.
The EASP is currently sponsoring an effort to collect the locations of residential, street-facing cameras in East Atlanta. We’ll be sharing this database with APD, and look forward to making this available for residents to provide locations of their cameras in early 2017. We hope this will encourage even more residents to purchase cameras, knowing that APD can easily reach out to neighbors for video when a crime is committed in their area.
If you are looking to volunteer with the EASP, we have some good opportunities right now. You can assist with the effort to provide the camera locations to APD, you can assist in our transition to a new email system, you can help post payments, or you can answer incoming phone calls and dispatch these calls to our officers. We are also looking for an additional yard sign delivery person. Drop us a note at [email protected] if you are interested in any of these opportunities, or you are welcome to implement your own improvements to the EASP if they make sense.
