We encourage everyone in the community to call in all suspicious activity. Be sure to get to know at least your immediate neighbors, which really helps identify vehicles or persons that don't belong. Should you see something that is even slightly suspicious, don't be afraid to call 911 and your neighborhood Security Patrol, whether that's the EASP, Trolley Patrol or Dekalb 360. Our biggest enemy is uncertainty, as many people think before they call the police. If you need to think about calling, it's probably worth calling. The call a few weeks ago to Dekalb 360 resulted in two arrests by the EASP within 30 minutes. While some criminals drive the same vehicle for a week, most do not. You should assume that most vehicles used to commit crimes are dumped after a day or two. The case of the Ford Focus is unusual, and not the work of more experienced criminals. In most cases, we need to recognize suspicious activity rather than assume that the same vehicle will be used night after night.
As for this morning's burglary on Milton Place, here is the police report:
I responded to a call of a burglary at 1345 Milton Pl SE and spoke to victim. Victim stated that he returned home after receiving a call from his neighbor, neighbor/witness, stating that she witnessed several people enter his home and remove items. neighbor, who was not on scene, stated that she witnessed 4 to 6 people in an older model white Chevrolet pick-up truck with a toolbox in the bed, back the vehicle into the driveway at the location. Witness stated
that two black males, two white or Hispanic males, and one white or Hispanic female then entered the house through a side door on the west side of the house and run out with several items. Witness then waited approximately 15 minutes to call victim. When I arrived on scene I observed that the door had been forced open, either kicked in or pried open, causing extensive damage. Victim informed me that three TV's and a laptop computer were taken during the incident. I dusted for latent fingerprint evidence on two doors but was unable to locate any prints. Victim was unable to provide any serial numbers but would try to locate them. No other theft or damage was reported.
