On Monday morning, thanks to an alert citizen, a burglary in progress on Oak Grove was called in to 911, and APD officers were able to arrest the perpetrators. No further details are available as of yet, but a report will be provided on our crime reports page as soon as we receive it. This was the first official report of a burglary in East Atlanta since September 21st, which is very welcome news. Both burglaries and robberies have been realtively infrequent this year, a positive development after a few rough months in 2013 when evening burglaries were a common occurrence.
The most recent crime reports have been posted for the week ending October 25th. Other than vehicle break-ins, the news was good, as no robberies or burglaries were reported. The reports for the week ending November 2nd should be posted later this week. Those will contain multiple robberies, two of which occurred on October 29th. Robbers are targeting people on side streets and parking lots, which is fairly typical of armed robberies in our neighborhood. After seeing this problem diminish considerably over the past year, robberies have spiked in the past month in the East Atlanta Village area as well as in Ormewood Park and Grant Park. Be sure not to linger outside after dark, and that particularly applies to sitting in your vehicle. Once in your vehicle, do not sit and chat. Be prepared to enter your vehicle and exit your parking spot in a timely manner, particularly at night.
The EASP is pleased to welcome two new officers to the team in recent weeks. Both are Zone 6 beat officers, including one of our East Atlanta beat officers. Both bring a lot of police experience as well as knowledge of our area. They are very community oriented, which is why it's so valuable to call the EASP about any Public Safety issue. You're not just alerting EASP officers on duty, but also providing valuable information that Zone 6 beat officers are taking onto their regular patrols for APD. Another benefit of working with our Zone 6 beat officers is how often they contact the EASP while on duty for APD with information that can be shared with the community or our other EASP officers.
