Yesterday afternoon, an alert resident noticed a woman on the property of a neighbor on Haas near McPherson. The EASP officer arrived on the scene and could not determine a valid reason for her to be on the property. She provided a fake name to the officer, and was found to have tools that might be used to break in to a house. The officer did not recognize her, and determined she had come to East Atlanta on a Marta bus. She was arrested for prowling, and later found to have an outstanding warrant in Fulton County. Kudos to our alert neighbor for calling this in before a crime could be committed. We strongly encourage all residents to immediately call 911 followed by the EASP at 404-954-1568 whenever they see suspicious activity.
Just one final reminder that today is the last day to become a member of the EASP until later this summer. Your official membership will begin on July 1st, with free membership the rest of May and all of June. If you sign up after today, your official membership will still begin on July 1st, but you'll lose out on the six weeks of free membership. Based on who joins the EASP by the end of today, we'll update our patrol coverage tomorrow to reflect which streets have added new members. The EASP allocates most of its patrol time based on where members live, with additional time spent in areas where crime has been occurring.
