On Tuesday about 11:45 am, a burglary occurred in the 1400 block of Marbut. Electronics and car keys were among the items taken. There do not appear to be any witnesses. Being the third burglary in a week, please be sure to be very observant, especially if you are at home during the day. There's nothing wrong with calling 911 and the EASP at 404-954-1568 should you see anything suspicious. Never worry that you are bothering the police. They will prioritize more important calls first and won't be delayed from responding to a serious crime because they're checking out suspicious activity. One of the most important reasons to call the EASP after calling 911 is that your suspicious vehicle call may not even be dispatched for twenty minutes. When you call the EASP, an officer can respond in 3-5 minutes when one is on duty. That means an EASP officer may arrive before the on-duty officers even hear the call dispatched.
The crime reports for the week ending March 21st have been posted to our website. Seven crimes were reported, as compared to two last week. Zone 6 had 94 reported crimes, including 27 auto thefts. To be fair, not every "auto theft" was successful; many are really attempted thefts and the vehicle never moves from where the owner left it.
Nonetheless, auto thefts are up substantially in Zone 6, and having some form of anti-theft protection is a wise investment.
Another reminder that membership is closing for the upcoming quarter in just one week. In addition to EASP patrols increasing as more members join on your street, more members also mean more APD patrols on your street, since one of our member benefits is passing along your out of town requests to both APD officers and the EASP officers. The more members on your street, the greater likelihood that an on-duty officer will be cruising down the street to check on the home of a resident who has submitted an out of town form.
